Rocks and minerals of «Le Massif Armoricain» OLD

François Le Bail (1903–1979), a geologist, taught natural sciences and physics at a high school in Quimper (Likès, La Salle Foundation). He explored the Armorican Massif from east to west, north to south, in order to study its subsurface geology. A selection of the rocks and minerals he collected is presented here in this exhibition. Most of these specimens can no longer be found in the field today. The national geological nature reserve on the island of Groix (Morbihan) now bears his name.
This room transports you into the Massif Armoricain’s heart. The 500 parts collection reveals the unsuspected variety of the Breton basement.
